Ann Curry
Ann Curry is a photojournalist as well as a journalist, author and has covered areas of war for over more than 45 years. Her work focuses on human suffering as well as disasters. Curry covered the conflicts within Kosovo Iraq Syria Lebanon Palestine Afghanistan Darfur Congo, and Central African Republic. Ann Curry was an American journalist, TV news reporter and host best recognized as a correspondent on the Today program which is a morning-time broadcast newscast on NBC. Curry gained notoriety for her reporting of human rights crises, natural disasters and other emergencies that occurred within war-torn areas. Curry's maternal grandmother is Japanese and her father is an American Navy Sailor. After World War II, her parents came together when her father served in Japan. Because of her father's work in the military and the frequent moves they made. The family eventually arrived in Ashland Oregon where Curry attended high school. In 1978, she graduated from the University of Oregon with a bachelor's degree in journalism. In her youth she was exposed many different cultures. She traveled extensively to locations such as San Diego Alameda Oregon and Virginia. Ashland is where she graduated from the high school. In Medford the following year, she began her broadcasting career with KTVL Channel 10 as an intern. When she was 22 she was the first reporter to be female at KTVL. She then moved up to reporting and anchoring at KGW which is an affiliate of NBC in Portland. In the course of four years, she was hired as an anchor by KCBS TV in Los Angeles. It was during her time with the channel for a period of 6 years that she was awarded the two Emmy Awards.
